Under the direction of the WHS Clinical Director, the Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) – Per Diem manages the medical care, counseling, and health education of obstetrical patients in the outpatient setting throughout the maternity cycle and post-partum period. The CNM also provides basic primary and gynecologic care for patients of all ages following standardized policies, procedures, and protocols regulated by the State of California Nurse Practice Act and TRUECARE.
| • | Conduct clinical practice in adherence with TRUECARE Medical Staff Bylaws and clinical guidelines. | |
| • | Provide obstetric and gynecologic care in the outpatient setting. | |
| • | Obtain patient's medical history and perform an evaluative examination for pregnant and postpartum patients and for gynecologic services for patients of patients of any age. | |
| • | Develop and implement a plan of care with the patient which is consistent with the clinical objectives of the multi-disciplinary women’s health team. | |
| • | Prescribe appropriate treatments and medications from an approved formulary for the management of a patient’s contraceptive needs and/or for specific medical or obstetric indication. | |
| • | Identify deviations from normal and consult, co-manage or refer as appropriate. | |
| • | Engage in ongoing risk assessment through review of the patient chart to determine patient suitability for midwifery care and/or need for MD collaboration, consultation, or transfer of care. | |
| • | Complete legible and legally defensible medical records in a timely manner daily in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. | |
| • | Manage postpartum care in the outpatient care setting according to Standardized Procedures and clinical guidelines and in collaboration with OBGYNs. | |
| • | Determine the need for services from other members of the health care team, including adult medicine, pediatrics, lactation, WIC, dental, chiropractic, acupuncture and behavioral health providers and refer as appropriate. | |
| • | Participate in a continuous, collaborative peer review process and in audits to conform to regulatory standards. | |
| • | Participate in the training of nurses and students and refresher program for nurse-midwives, as assigned. | |
| • | Attend continuing education programs and provide evidence of necessary education completion to upgrade midwifery skills and maintain licensing requirements. |
Requirements:
| • | Graduate of a Midwifery Program accredited by the American Midwifery Certification Board. | ||
| • | Computer proficiency, particularly with Electronic Health/Medical Record systems and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. | ||
| • | Current California Registered Nurse License | ||
| • | Current and unrestricted California Nurse Midwife License | ||
| • | Board of Registered Nurses Certification Furnishing Number issued by California Board of Registered Nursing | ||
| • | Current and unrestricted Controlled Substances Registration Certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) | ||
| • | Valid California Driver’s License, proof of auto liability insurance and clean driving record |
