Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operations Officer, the Lead Clinician collaborates closely with the Health Center Managers to ensure the provision of effective quality medical service to the patients of the health center. Responsible for assuring clinical procedures are continually and systematically followed, patient flow is enhanced, and customer service is extended to all patients at all times.
Responsibilities:
Health Center Administration (15%)
- Assist the Health Center Managers in health center operations as requested.
- Measured by meeting attendance, adherence to budget, meeting deadlines, audits, observation, morale, and project completion.
- Keep staff informed of organizational activities and promote TrueCare mission and goals.
- Assess training needs and promote developmental activities.
- Assist in conducting department meetings to promote communication, assess and resolve needs and foster teamwork.
- Assist Supervisory RN to evaluate medical support staff, including Medical Assistants/Receptionists, staff performance against job description criteria and competency assessment and provide guidance and coaching to develop an individual as well as a unit to highest potential.
- Assist in making decisions to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees.
- Build work teams to promote and improve effective health center operations.
- Implement overall administrative, medical, fiscal, and personnel policies.
- Promote attitudes, environments and operational systems directed toward patient satisfaction.
- Organize staffing and processes to promote efficient patient flow, patient satisfaction, and optimal provider productivity.
Clinical Quality & Competence (55%) - Provide comprehensive medical services.
- Perform clinical procedures & services that are within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practice.
- Collaborate with operations to assure that medical backup is accessible as necessary to all TrueCare health center sites and clinicians while remaining adaptable and flexible.
- Provide or arrange for adequate supervision, consultation, medical backup and instruction when needed to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses and other health care delivery team members in all TrueCare Health Center sites as applicable.
- Open to serving as a preceptor to medical and paraprofessional students placed with TrueCare.
- Facilitate transfer of care to other TrueCare clinicians when religious/personal beliefs interfere with the clinician’s ability to offer full care options (i.e. abortion referral, contraceptive management, etc.).
- Be accessible by telephone during hours scheduled, and at other times as requested by the Chief Operations Officer, Practice Manager, Chief Medical Officer and/ or Chief Executive Officer.
- Adhere to TrueCare Medical Staff Bylaws
- Utilize medical staff protocols for referral, follow-up and quality assurance.
- Agree to comply with adopted TrueCare clinical guidelines
- Work closely with Health Educator to provide appropriate health education and follow-up to patients
- Assist the Chief Operations Officer/Practice Manager and the Chief Medical Officer with employee evaluations for the Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses and Medical Assistants as needed.
- Be responsible for attending continuing education programs and provide evidence of necessary education completion to upgrade medical skills and maintain licensing requirements.
- Obtain and maintain Board Certification (as applicable).
- Assist the Chief Executive and /or Chief Medical Officer in program development as requested.
- Participate in Quality Assurance Program including audits, peer review, patient satisfaction, protocol development and in-servicing training.
- Contribute to the success of TrueCare by participating in quality improvements activities.
- Attend meetings and other in-service training as established by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Complete legible and legally defensible medical records in a timely manner on a daily basis.
- Participate in utilization review and management.
- Display knowledge of normal signs of human development and ability to assess and provide age-appropriate care.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report unethical, fraudulent or unlawful behavior or activity.
- Measured by peer review, patient satisfaction, credentialing, and QM activities.
Productivity & Practice Management (25%) - Maintain productivity standards within 10% of the practice goal and/or as required.
- Perform in high volume and emergency situations as applicable.
- Start clinic on or before the scheduled time.
- Show up at meetings as required on or before the scheduled time.
- Coordinates communication during the following situations:
- A. Calls if he/she is going to be late.
- B. Signs out patients to the appropriate clinician/nursing staff for call or follow-up.
- C. Gives appropriate notice as required by TrueCare for time off.
- D. Responds to telephone in a timely manner during work hours.
- Works with nursing staff to facilitate prescription refills, paperwork completion.
- Accepts additional patients into the schedule when necessary.
- Accommodates urgent patients including walk-ins.
- Minimizes rescheduling of patients; provides direction on what to do when it becomes necessary.
- Completes and submits all billing in an agreed upon timely manner (usually by the end of the day).
- Completes billing tickets to reflect accurate coding & charges of all services rendered.
- Agrees to follow each respective health center site’s Policies & Procedures.
- Answers messages and signs off clinical reports (consults, labs, x-ray’s, etc.) in a timely manner. (Measured by competency assessment, productivity, coding/billing audits, department meetings and staff input.
Qualifications:
- Board Certified or Eligible for Board Certification in primary care specialties. State of California license as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.
- Current CPR certification and DEA license.
- Current Medical License from the State of California
- Current and unrestricted Controlled Substances Registration Certificate from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Electronic Health/Medical Record systems and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Valid California Driver’s License, proof of auto liability insurance and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred or as required by clinic site.
- Experience in providing medical care to underserved populations preferred.
The pay range for this role is $140,000 to $400,000 on an annual basis ($140,000-$220,000 for APPs, $275,000-$400,000 for MD/DOs).
