The Dental Hygienist is responsible for performing hygiene protocols and assess dental needs and make referrals.  This includes practicing preventive dental health and imparting health education information and techniques to patients.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assess dental needs, prepare dental record and refer patients as necessary to dentist.
  • Maintain dental records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing hygiene protocols.
  • Attends continuing education programs to stay current, upgrade skill and increase knowledge.
  • Impart preventive health education information and techniques to patients, including flossing, periodontal.
  • Perform various laboratory and x-ray procedures under supervision of the Dentist.
  • Maintain current health history information, review and sign it before beginning procedures.
  • Perform root planning, routine scalings, polish and contour restorations, oral exfoliative cytology, and apply pit and fissure sealants
  • Perform preliminary examination including periodontal charting, Intra and extra-oral examination of soft tissue, charting of lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth, classifying occlusion, and Myofunctional evaluation.
  • Perform or supervise dental assistants in taking impressions for diagnostic and opposing models, applying non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents, removing post-extraction and periodontal dressings, removing sutures, taking intra-oral measurements for orthodontic procedures, checking for loose bands, removing ligature ties, applying topical fluoride, and placing elastic separators.
  • Perform or supervise registered dental assistant in testing pulp vitality, removing excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth, sizing stainless steel crowns, temporary crowns and bands, temporary cementation and removal of temporary crowns and removal of orthodontic bands, and placing post extraction and periodontal dressings.
  • Under the direct supervision of the dentist, perform periodontal soft tissue curettage and administration of local anesthetic
  • Serve as a contact between TrueCare and the community, participating in preventative health education activities in the community as requested by the Dental Manager and or Dentist.
  • Participate in staff training as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the success of TrueCare by participating in quality improvements activities.
  • Display knowledge of normal signs of human developmental and ability to assess and provide age appropriate care.

Qualifications:

  • Current California Registered Dental Hygienist License
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a high volume dental practice.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology, instruments, materials and medications used during dental procedures.
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of health care delivery.
  • Three to four days a week, flexible to discuss schedule. Monday, Tuesday and one more day a week. At times the third day can be a weekday or a Saturday. 
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and Word, and with electronic health record data entry.  
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in a healthcare related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working in a community clinic setting.

The pay range for this role $39.29 to $58.93 on an hourly basis.

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
