Billing Service Representative (Temporary Role) Onsite Position

Your Role & Impact
Under the direction of the Patient Financial Services Manager, the Billing Service Representative is responsible for maintaining the daily customer service and administrative support for the Patient Financial Services Department. Responsible for answering the phones and confirming the patient identity, demographic information, and account information. The Billing Service Representative will assist patients with billing questions, collect payment, may need to verify insurance eligibility or re-bill the services to the correct insurance plan. Additional responsibilities include mailing out claims, opening the mail and distributing mail to the team, review self-pay accounts and assist with special projects.
•Responsible primarily for collecting on self-pay past due accounts.
•Perform patient account balance verifications, making payment arrangements, if necessary, on walk-in, telephone calls or mail-in requests and inter office billing corrections inquires.
•Making account corrections by voiding and re-keying to correct payer.
•Check eligibility via phone or internet.
•Review NSF checks report from accounting.
•Apply Sliding Fee Discount Program (SFDP) discounts as necessary. Ensure Declaration of income documentation has been captured.
•Provide customer service internally and externally with professionalism, courtesy, knowledge, and follow through.
•Function at highest level according to eligibility competency.
•Meets daily productivity standards.
•Maintain required billing records, audit reports, files, etc., consistent with compliance guidelines.
•Maintain strictest confidentiality; adhere to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines/regulations.
What We’re Looking For
•Minimum of 1 year work experience in similar or related position.
•Medical Receptionist experience in a medical office, preferably handling insurance eligibility.
•Must have a general understanding of medical office procedures, billing insurance carriers including Medicare and Medicaid.
•Must have experience working with an electronic health record system; preferably Epic.
•Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills and working in a healthcare setting with a basic understanding of the revenue cycle process.
•Multiple specialty and/or FQHC/community clinic environment experience a plus.
•A well-rounded understanding of insurance eligibility processes and coverage guidelines for multiple carriers.
•Bilingual – English/Spanish
